Diagnostic characters
Small agaric, growing on litter, wood or fallen branches, with a white or cream spore print. All parts of fruit-body white. Pileus not viscid, translucent-striate. Lamellae not intervenose. Stipe lateral and short, or absent. Partial veil remnants absent. Spores globose to subglobose, hyaline, non-amyloid, smooth; germ pore absent. Cheilocystidia present or absent. Lamellar trama regular, interwoven or bilateral. Pileipellis a trichoderm, rarely a cutis. Clamp connections present.
Similar genera
Other white, stipe-less agarics on wood are much larger, with the exception of some species of Campanella, which have lamellae that are usually distinctly intervenose and nodulose pileipellis hyphae. Some Crepidotus and Entoloma (Claudopus) are whitish and can have very pale lamellae when young, but the spore print is brown or pink. Spores are often warty in the former, and always markedly angular in the latter.
