Stipe base shape: bulbous

Stipe base shape refers to the shape of the base of the stipe, irrespective of the overall shape of the stipe. Be careful to remove the whole stipe from the substrate when determining this feature.

Choose this state if: there is a distinct bulbous base to the stipe, with a spherical or hemispherical bulb that is much wider than the rest of the stipe. If the overall stipe shape is clavate, do not choose this state unless there is a distinct bulb at the base. Do not confuse a bulbous stipe base with the presence of sclerotia or pseudosclerotia (which have a different consistency to the stipe above).
