Observe the pileus surface for radial splits extending from the pileus margin inwards. Look carefully to see if the splits are just through the pileus surface, in which case see Pileus surface (cracks, pits or wrinkles), or if the splits extend into the flesh of the underlying lamellae.
Choose this state if: there are one to several deep splits extending from the pileus margin towards the centre. Each split extends vertically through the pileus context and continues through the lamella which lies directly beneath. The underlying lamella is split in two, but remains intact along its lower edge. This means that the two radial edges of the split through the pileus context remain connected by the lamella which is now deeply split itself. Visible from above are two newly exposed interior surfaces of the lamellae, rather than the outer faces of two lamellae as with a normal split between adjacent lamellae.
This state has only been observed in the genus Humidicutis.
