In a multilayered pileipellis, the hypoderm is a distinct layer below the surface layer.

Choose this state if: there is no differentiated hypoderm (the pileipellis is uniform, and may consist of filamentous or inflated elements), or there is a hypoderm consisting of non-inflated, elongate cylindrical or fusiform hyphae.
