Observe lamellae spacing by turning the fruit-body over and looking at the lamellae edge-on.
Choose this state if: the lamellae (and any lamellulae) are crowded together. Adjacent lamellae (or lamellulae) are touching or almost so, and the space between is only about the thickness of a single lamella. A sheet of thick paper will just fit between adjacent lamellae (or lamellulae).
