Criniform stipes are sterile modifications of the stipe, which appear similar to rhizomorphs, but have a tiny aborted pileus at the apex.

Choose this state if: criniform stipes are associated with fruit-bodies. Criniform stipes are long, thin, stipe-like structures that have a tiny aborted pileus at their apex. Criniform stipes usually do not grow straight and vertically like the stipe of a normal agaric, but lie in tangled masses around and near fruit-bodies. They are most commonly associated with Mycena cystidiosa, and can be present in large numbers in the wet forest where this species occurs, sometimes in the absence of fruit-bodies.
