Cheilocystidia: present

Cheilocystidia are modified sterile elements on the edge of lamellae. They either form a dense layer or are mixed with basidia and basidioles (immature basidia). Mature basidia can be distinguished by the apical sterigmata (and some have developing spores attached). Cheilocystidia differ from basidioles (which are narrowly to broadly clavate) in size and/or shape, and sometimes also in wall thickness or pigmentation.

Cheilocystidia can be viewed on intact lamellae placed face downwards, or on cross sections of lamellae which include the edge. Squash preparations can facilitate examination of shape and other features.

Choose this state if: there are cheilocystidia present at the edge of the lamellae.
