Two identification units in Lactarius are keyed out separately.

• Lactarius clarkeae group. This unit is keyed out separately because L. clarkeae often lacks latex, and the species of this group are also unusual because they have sphaerocytes in the lamellar trama, and thick-walled terminal elements in the pileipellis.

• Lactarius (other) covers the remaining Australian species.
