• Clitopilus morphogroup Rhodocybe is distinguished by spores that are angular in end view but not in side view, and overall are verrucose.

• Clitopilus (other) covers the rest of the Australian species of the genus, that have spores that are angular in end view and longitudinally ridged, rather than verrucose.
